Correct False Teachings (Preserve Truth in the Church):

When false teachings are identified, they must be corrected.  Matthew 18:15-17 (you may want to review this passage on rebuking others and church discipline) may come into play here.  Here’s a good example of a well-intentioned person who had to be corrected:

In American pop culture, Christians who share their faith (or even admit to believing in Christ) are viewed with disdain and perceived as threatening. Of course, a few Christians do act like jerks, but this is not why people are so upset at Christians. In fact, it is evangelism itself that upsets them. I was discussing this topic with someone once, and in a burst of passion, she finally admitted what upset her about evangelism. “You Christians think you’re right!” she burst out.

The fact that Christians claim to have the truth is offensive. It flies in the face of the widely held idea that questions of morality and religion are open to individual interpretation. Nobody has any right to tell another person that what he is doing is wrong. I mean, who do these Christians think they are? They have no right to tell others that the way they're living is wrong, right? As one author put it, “The freedom of our day is the freedom to devote ourselves to any values we please, on the mere condition that we do not believe them to be true.” Most people in our culture hold this view, though they may not ever consciously realize it.

                              The Reason Rally Diaries

Tom Loghry, student president of the Ratio Christi club a Toccoa Falls College, attended the Reason Rally and is interviewed online by Ashley Paramore, Development Director for the Secular Student Alliance. Ashley orginally made a video questioning the True Reason response. Tom met her at the rally in person, and contacted her later by email to set up the interview. To watch the interview, first watch this 18 minute segment then this 25 minute clip. It was an enjoyable with an opportunity for Tom to answer some questions.

Daniel is a home-schooled high school senior who attends Ratio Christi meetings from time to time and came with us to the Reason Rally in order to engage in rational dialogue with the many atheists present on the mall between the Capitol Building and the Washington Monument. The mist and rain bathed us intermittently beneath the canopy of a gray, solemn sky that hung overhead like a lid on a jar. No real hope of the sun breaking through today to warm our weary bones from an all-night bus trip from Greensboro to Washington.

Ratio Christi at Wayne State University welcomes you to the WSU "Polemics on Faith" event, on Thursday afternoons in the Student Center Building (SCB)!

If you came to any of the Video Series this past Fall or Winter in the Bernath Auditorium, you heard of this exciting new student org coming to Wayne State. Ratio Christi is a national organization, dedicated to the discussion of all things theological and philosophical. If you attended the first meeting, you saw and heard the spirited discussion that took place on the subject of "Is Religion Dangerous?"

Up this week, "Is Faith Irrational?"

Not many people think of apologetics as a way to preserve the church.  It’s usually associated with pre-evangelism (which we will cover in an upcoming article), but as the previous article mentioned, Christians need to be cautioned that false teachings can sneak into the church.  Therefore we must consider the four components in which apologetics helps in preserving the church: identify false teachers; identify false teachings; correct false teachings; keep unity in the church.

There are several purposes of apologetics and two of them are spiritual growth and discernment.  These two are linked together.  As you grow spiritually, you slowly gain discernment as well.  One of the benefits of studying apologetics is getting heavy doses of truth.  When you know the truth, it's very difficult for someone to trick you into believing a lie.
