Lenoir-Rhyne University

Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina is our newest chapter to receive official status from the host university. The Chapter Director is Chris Van Allsburg. Welcome Lenoir-Rhyne! Ratio Christi, a Christian apologetics ministry at Lenoir-Rhyne, has as its primary goal to offer Christian students a chance to learn how to think through intellectual issues that seem to subvert the classic, orthodox, Christian message. Students thinking through these issues are confronted with such questions as rationality and the existence of God, the exclusivity of the gospel message, the problem of evil, the authority of Scripture, human sexuality, faith and works, and so on. Our additional attempt is to provide a setting where those of non-Christian beliefs may engage Christian students and Ratio Christi staff in honest, thoughtful, open forum discussions. We'd also love to host debates between big-name scholars. Ratio Christi also has a broader vision of community involvement, reaching beyond the boundaries of the campus by means of similar activities of open, rational dialogue regarding the thorny questions of the Christian religion. Ratio Christi currently meets at "The Cave," which is in the basement of the "Bears Lair" at 7:30 am every Friday (as of June 3). This summer, students will be led through Greg Koukl's "Tactics: Directions for Defending the Faith," a fun, interactive, and stimulating DVD on how to engage others in conversations that are non-threatening, and yet challenge the positions of non-Christian worldviews. So far, we have studied the biblical case for apologetics (what the Bible itself says about apologetics), including Jesus' use of logic.
