  • Theology, Doctrine, and Heresy

It's usually not appealing to go over vocabulary.  It brings up memories of weekly Friday tests of 20 words in elementary school.  However, there are some terms that are so widely used that we have to make sure our audience knows what we're talking about.

Three terms that are widely used that the average person may not know are theology, doctrine, and heresy.  As we continue through this semester, we need to know what these terms mean and their implications.<...   More

  • Denying Design

(This is the final part of a series regarding Dr. Richard Carrier's views according to his book "Why I Am Not A Christian." Be sure to read the intro to the series before reading the article.)

In my final article on Carrier's "Why I am Not a Christian," I thought I'd look at the denial of a Creator.  It's obvious from my previous posts that he tries to interpret everything from a naturalist...   More

Last time I spent time on a number of quotes from Carrier's "Why I am Not a Christian" in regards to science.  This time I want to focus on a single argument that I omitted in the previous post.  I think this deserves ou...   More

As I read through Carrier's "Why I am Not a Christian," I noticed a theme of his expectations not being met.  It's one thing to be surprised that things turn out differently than expected, but it's another thing...   More

The introduction of Dr. Carrier's book, "Why I am Not a Christian" explains his purpose for writing and his understanding of Christianity, which he sets out to crucify using reason, evidence, and logic.  I was very curious to...   More

  • Seeking Eden

We all recognize there are many things wrong with this world.  Death, disease, hard labor, injury, broken relationships - and more.  Deep down, we all yearn for a better world.  There are many non- and for- profit groups that work to that goal.  But, even with good intentions and hard work, this world will still be a mess.  That's because of the Fall.   More

  • But-- God is Love!

    "But, God is Love!"

I don't know how many situations I've heard this in, but it's common for people to characterize the Christian God as simply "a God of love."  It then follows that because God is love, He wouldn't send people to hell.  Our problem begins here.   More

  • The Blood of the Saints

We often cringe at the idea of martyrs.  We don't want to know.  We don't want to hear about it.  It's too disstressing.  But at the same time, we lose out on seeing how God uses difficult situations for his glory.   More
