April 11, 2013 at 4 pm, 103 Rands House conference room:

Christianity and the Problem of Popular Culture
Drawing from the work of John Mark Reynolds

  • When it comes to faith and religious belief, what difference does it make that our culture is moving from textual literacy to video/visual literacy?
  • Can faith-based truth claims be taught in a visual, narrative story form suitable for TV, video or film?
  • Can linear, rational thought be prompted or promoted by movies, TV and videos?
  • Does the population in general lack the ability to follow linear arguments?
  • Why should Christians who have not done so, learn to play a musical instrument?
  • Should Christians fight the culture, integrate with the culture, or avoid the culture?

Join us from 4 pm to 5 pm on Thursday, April 11, for this discussion!

Discussions are led by Albert Spalding and, from time to time, guest speakers. Prof. Spalding is the director (campus apologist) and faculty adviser for Ratio Christi at Wayne State University, a student organization recognized by the Wayne State University Dean of Students Office and the WSU Student Senate.

Especially welcome are students who don't consider themselves to be "Christians," and students who fin themselves questioning their Christian faith.
