The Ultimate Debate: Does God Exist?

On Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, in the Community Arts auditorium on the Main Campus of Wayne State University, two WSU professors will debate the question, "Does God Exist?"

On the PRO side, Prof. Abert Spalding will provide evidence for the existence of God. Dr. Spalding teaches in the Mike Ilitch School of Business and serves as faculty advisor and chapter director of Ratio Christi at Wayne State University.

On the CON side, Prof. Bruce Russell will argue against the existence of God, especially in light of the excessive unnecessary suffering that too often occurs in our world. Dr. Spalding teaches in the Philosophy Department at Wayne State, where he formerly served as department chair.

Apologetics on the Campus of Wayne State University

Students at Wayne State who want to learn to defend their faith more effectively are involved with Ratio Christi, a student critical thinking club. Events under consideration include panel discussions with non-Christian (e.g., students who identify as atheist, secular, Muslim, agnostic, ect.), apologetics training workshops, and informal discussions about such topics as whether God exists, whether Jesus resurrected from the dead, and the problems of evil and suffering in the world (theodicy).

Students meet informally at "Brainstorming Breakfast" (breakfast provided) from time to time to discuss and plan apologetics initiatives on campus.

If you are interested in attending a Brainstorming Breakfast or become involved in apologetics on Wayne State's campus, contact Ratio Christi by sending an email to WSU@RatioChristi.org.
