Before entering ministry, Rick worked in Advertising as an Art Director at Young & Rubicam NY doing commercial work for brands that included NY Telephone, Rolaids, and STP. He and his wife Katie joined staff with Cru in 1988 where he served, first as Campus Director at Rutgers, then Regional Director of Cru ministries in the Mid-Atlantic states. In 2001 he founded Cru Press, the publishing arm of Cru. Rick served as publisher for Cru and Cru Press until joining staff with Ratio Christi in 2022.
Throughout his years with Cru, Rick maintained both a teaching and apologetic ministry, speaking on several hundred campuses and universities across the U.S., particularly on the subject of “Jesus in the Gospels.” Rick is the author of numerous books, booklets, and Bible studies with Cru Press as well as Jesus Without Religion (InterVarsity Press, 2006), A Million Ways to Die (Cook, 2010), and Watch (NavPress, 2017). Rick has his MDiv. From Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and his PhD from Southeastern Theological Seminary.
Joining Rick in Ratio Christi’s publishing ministry is his wife, Katie. Katie has her MFA from Columbia University in New York, where she also taught Creative Writing. She is the author of several books, including A Prayer for Orion (InterVarsity Press, 2020) and Can You See Anything Now? which won Christianity Today’s 2018 Award for Fiction.
Rick and Katie live in West Chester, Pennsylvania, and have three grown children (Avery, Whitney, and Will) and two grandchildren, Everett and Kaya.
Ratio Christi (Latin for ‘The Reason of Christ’) is a global movement that equips university students and faculty to give historical, philosophical, and scientific reasons for following Jesus Christ.
